INTEL FEED — DATED BRIEFINGS

RESIDENT EVIL NEWS

Everything that moved the franchise in 2026, in one dated file: a movie that just became the highest-grossing Resident Evil film ever and dated its digital release, a ninth mainline game that finally ceded one sales crown, a story DLC surfacing from a writer's interview, and a remake cycle that now reaches past the numbered entries. Every figure is attributed to the source that stated it, and estimates are labelled as estimates.

01Film — the 2026 Movie Is Now the Franchise Record

Zach Cregger's reboot — Resident Evil: Noche Cero in Spanish-speaking markets — opened September 18, 2026 and has now passed every previous live-action entry. The film's business spiked in its fourth frame on the back of a China release that delivered the best horror opening in that market in two years. Full guide, cast and ending on the Movie 2026 page.

Digital release dated: Resident Evil hits storefronts November 3

Sony has dated the PVOD/EST window: November 3, 2026, 46 days after the September 18 theatrical opening. MovieWeb's report notes the theatrical run had already turned a profit against the $75M budget, so the digital drop is a victory lap, not an early exit. A physical (Blu-ray/4K) date is still unannounced.

The Numbers' read: $323M worldwide — and North America is finally carrying its share

The Numbers put the run at $322,990,216 through October 14 — call it $323M — from $141.3M domestic and $181.7M international. The structural headline is domestic: at a 44% North American share, this is the highest domestic share any Resident Evil film has logged, where The Final Chapter drew just 8.5% ($26.8M of its $314.1M, per ScreenRant's comparison table). The figures differ by cutoff, not by dispute.

Franchise record: past The Final Chapter and past Weapons

A $62.7M global fourth weekend — nearly two-thirds of it from China's $40.6M opening — lifted the reboot to $320.2M worldwide, past The Final Chapter's $312.2M to become the top-grossing Resident Evil film (unadjusted), and past Cregger's own Weapons ($270.1M) as his biggest film. Japan, the games' home market, opened October 9 to about $3.5–3.6M.

NBA 2K27 ends Requiem's reign as the US's best-selling game of 2026

Requiem had held the US yearly #1 since launch; the Circana dollar-sales chart now puts NBA 2K27 on top, with Requiem second for the year-to-date (007 First Light third). Capcom keeps two consolations: Requiem is still 2026's best-selling physical game on PS5, and it remains one of the franchise's top five US dollar earners ever. Alinea: Requiem's 1.3M PS5 discs out-earned the entire Xbox platform

Analyst Alinea Analytics' physical breakdown estimates 1.3 million boxed PS5 copies — ~15% of Requiem's total revenue and 30.2% of its PlayStation-platform revenue — and finds those discs alone generated 1.8× the revenue of everything Xbox (physical + digital + PC combined). The point lands awkwardly for Sony, which plans to stop manufacturing PS5 discs from 2028. Estimate, not Capcom-disclosed.

Rumour: Veronica's internal target again said to be autumn 2027

GamesCreed reports Dusk Golem citing three independent sources for Veronica's internal target slipping to fall 2027, with the rework driven by mid-development changes to the remake's theme. Rumour — self-labelled unconfirmed, and Capcom's only official word remains “2027.” Per the same reporting, a slip would push the Requiem story DLC toward 2028.

Universal Studios Japan opens Biohazard Requiem: The Dive

USJ's Halloween Horror Nights attraction — a walk-through haunted house rebuilding the Wrenwood Hotel and Rhodes Hill Care Center with live actors as the game's signature zombies (Selena, the bandaged-eyed IV-stand zombie), lickers and Marie — runs September 11 to December 27, 2026 at Stage 18, timed entry only, ages 15+. Reviews single out the faithful zombie costumes and Marie's puppet-assisted scale. The games' Raccoon City, made walkable.

Screenwriter confirms he is writing a Spencer-focused story DLC

At Meadowlark Comic Con, Requiem writer Haris Orkin said he is "working on the DLC right now" and that it will dig further into Umbrella founder Oswell E. Spencer: "We have an arc for Spencer in Requiem… and then in the DLC you will understand it even further." Capcom has not formally announced a title, date or price, and no release window is confirmed.

Behind the scenes: Requiem was nearly an online game with Leon solo

Producer Masachika Kawata told the Biohazard 30th Special Mook that Requiem was originally prototyped as an online, multiplayer-leaning game (working name "Apocalypse"), and that Leon S. Kennedy was to be the sole protagonist. The team dropped the online direction and added Grace Ashcroft partly because Leon's combat ability made sustained horror harder to stage.

2027

Resident Evil Veronica — the Code: Veronica remake

Announced at Summer Game Fest in June 2026 for 2027 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2 and PC (RE Engine). Producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi has confirmed a Claire Redfield focus, a third-person perspective and an RE2-remake-style approach to resources. The "Code:" subtitle is dropped. Rumour: insiders say the internal target may have slipped toward autumn 2027, and a short Separate Ways-style DLC is claimed — Capcom's only official word is "2027".

QUICK ANSWERS

04News FAQ

Is the 2026 Resident Evil movie the highest-grossing one now?

Yes — and by a wide margin. Box Office Mojo's October 26 read puts it at $384.5M worldwide ($153.7M domestic / $230.8M international), more than $70M past The Final Chapter ($312.2M). It also beat Cregger's own Weapons ($270.1M), though Weapons was the bigger earner relative to its budget. See the Movie 2026 page for the full run.

When is the movie out digitally?

November 3, 2026 on digital storefronts (PVOD/EST) — 46 days after the theatrical opening, per MovieWeb. A physical Blu-ray/4K date hasn't been announced yet.

Has the Requiem DLC been officially announced?

No. Capcom confirmed a story expansion is in development but has given no title, date or price. What exists publicly is the writer's own remarks at a convention and a set of unverified leaker claims. Details like developer, length and setting should be treated as rumour until Capcom publishes them.

How many copies has Resident Evil Requiem sold?

Capcom reported more than 8.06 million units by July 28, 2026, after passing 6 million in mid-March. Those are unit milestones; a separate third-party model (Alinea Analytics) estimates about $558M in revenue, which is an estimate of money, not copies. In the US year-to-date chart, NBA 2K27 has since overtaken it — but Requiem remains 2026's best-selling physical game on PS5.

When is the Veronica remake out, and on what platforms?

Capcom has only said 2027, for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2 and PC. There is no date. Reports of an autumn-2027 slip and a companion DLC come from leakers, not Capcom.
