Resident Evil Requiem has five lockpicks and five locked drawers and lockers, all inside the Care Center. Each pick is consumed on use and the five picks exactly cover the five locks; every lock holds Rare Metal for crafting Requiem ammunition (VGC; Polygon; GamesRadar).
"Care Center" is the Rhodes Hill Care Center hub on the Normal route — East and West Wings plus Basement. Locations cross-checked across VGC (Dave Aubrey, February 26, 2026), Polygon (Paulo Kawanishi, February 27, 2026), games.gg, Game8 and GamesRadar+ (Leon Hurley, February 26, 2026). Two guides number the same five picks in different orders — see the note in Section 02. * Missable: see Section 03.
SECTION 01
01How Lockpicking Works in Requiem
Lockpicks in Requiem open what the guides call simple locks: the drawers, lockers and cabinets scattered through the Care Center (games.gg). No codes, no dials, no symbol wheels. You walk up, you interact, the lock opens — and the pick is consumed on the spot (Polygon).
The system is deliberately lean. Five picks, five locks, one hub. GamesRadar's check on the supply line is the reassuring part: the game hands you exactly enough picks to open every lock, so you never have to choose which drawer to abandon (GamesRadar). Your whole job is a two-step discipline — collect each pick when you pass it, open each lock when you pass it.
What lockpicks do not open: the safes and the puzzle locks. Those are separate systems with separate solutions, and mixing them up is the single most common confusion around this subsystem — Section 05 sorts the two out.
SECTION 02
02All 5 Lockpick Locations
Three picks sit in the Care Center's Wings, two in its Basement — every one on the pickup route below, with its gate condition attached.
Lockpick 1 — Lead Researcher's Office
A dresser in the Lead Researcher's Office holds the first pick, no gate in front of it (VGC; Game8). Walk in, check the dresser, take it.
Lockpick 2 — Custodian's Office
The Custodian's Office keeps its pick in a storage locker — but the room sits behind a Level 1 ID Wristband door (Polygon; games.gg). Arrive without the wristband and the door stops you; file the room and come back. If you are sweeping in one pass, collect the wristband first.
Lockpick 3 — West Wing Office (second floor)
A desk in the second-floor West Wing office holds another pick, no gate listed (VGC; games.gg). The second floor is the part people miss — the ground-floor corridor does not have it.
Lockpick 4 — Boiler Room (Basement)
The Basement Boiler Room pick sits on the room's east side, and it is the most gated pickup of the five: the power has to be cut first, and the way in is the broken grille on the room's north side (VGC; games.gg).
Two conditions, in order: cut the power, then enter through the broken grille on the north side — not the main door (VGC; games.gg). Neither source describes a second entry, so if the room looks sealed, you are standing at the wrong wall or the lights are still on.
Lockpick 5 — Workshop vent tunnel
The last pick hides in the vent tunnel behind the Workshop, and it has a tool gate: the Square Socket Wrench opens the way, with a Joint Plug bypass as the alternate route (VGC; games.gg). Both routes end at the same pick — take whichever tool you already carry.
VGC's list opens with the Lead Researcher's Office pick; games.gg's list opens with the West Wing office. Same five picks, different order — neither guide flags the mismatch. Both orderings are printed above rather than one adopted silently: sequence your picks by your own route through the Care Center, not by anyone's numbering.
SECTION 03
03All 5 Locked Drawers and Lockers
The five locks split the same way as the picks: three in the Wings, two in the Basement — and the two Basement locks are the two you can lose.
Lock 1 — West Wing corridor drawer
A locked drawer sits in the West Wing corridor, near the Kitchen and Restroom stretch (VGC; games.gg). It is the lock most players walk past first — the corridor reads as transit space, not loot space.
Lock 2 — East Wing Lobby drawer
The East Wing Lobby holds a locked drawer of its own (VGC; games.gg). Lobby furniture is exactly where Requiem likes to hide a simple lock — check the drawers before you push deeper into the wing.
Lock 3 — drawer outside the Chairman's Office
The third drawer stands just outside the Chairman's Office door (VGC; games.gg). It guards the approach rather than the office itself, so sweep the landing outside the door before you go in.
Lock 4 — Bunkroom locker (Basement, optional)
The Bunkroom is an optional Basement room, and its locker holds the fourth lock (VGC; games.gg). This is the first of the two misses.
The Bunkroom is off the main Basement path. Skip the room and the locker stays shut behind you — there is no chapter select to loop back with, so a missed locker here means a reload of your own save (VGC; games.gg). Walk the optional Basement rooms before you leave the hub.
Lock 5 — Inspection Room blue locker (Basement)
The Inspection Room sits after the forklift sequence in the Basement — the same sequence that unseals the Processing room's hip pouch — and its blue locker holds the fifth and final lock (VGC; games.gg).
The Inspection Room is reached after the forklift sequence — push on without checking it and you leave the last Rare Metal behind, with the same no-chapter-select catch as the Bunkroom (VGC; games.gg). Fold both Basement locks into one sweep: every locker, before you leave the Basement.
SECTION 04
04What's Inside: Rare Metal and the Requiem Ammo Loop
Every one of the five locks pays the same: one Rare Metal, five out of five (VGC; GamesRadar). No variation, no random roll — the sources agree across the board, and Game8's wiki cards list the same reward per lock.
Rare Metal is a crafting material for Requiem ammunition, the magnum round that matters late in the campaign (VGC; GamesRadar). That makes the loop worth spelling out, because it is the whole reason to bother with a corridor drawer:
- Collect the five lockpicks as you pass them — dresser, locker, desk, Boiler Room, vent tunnel.
- Open the five locks as you pass them — three drawers, two lockers.
- Bank five Rare Metals — a fixed, known bonus, not random loot.
- Craft Requiem ammunition when the recipe and the materials meet.
For the rest of the crafting economy, our beginner's guide covers the three crafting recipes that carry a run — the Requiem ammo loop is one of them, and the other two deserve the same discipline.
SECTION 05
05Lockpicks vs Safes: Two Different Lock Systems
The confusion is understandable — both systems guard containers in the same hub. But they share nothing else: a lockpick never opens a safe, and a safe never needs a pick:
| System | Opens with | Where | Reward pool |
|---|---|---|---|
| Simple locks (5) | Lockpick, consumed on use | Care Center drawers & lockers | Rare Metal (Requiem ammo crafting) |
| Safes (5) | Three-number dial combinations | Care Center & ARK | Antique coins, ammo, med injectors |
So the rule of thumb is clean: standing in front of a dial means codes, not picks. Our safe codes page keeps all 5 safe codes and dial combinations for both difficulties, and the symbol-sequence puzzle locks ride with them there. The reward pools do not overlap — safes pay coins and supplies, the simple locks pay Rare Metal (VGC; GamesRadar) — so a full sweep means doing both.
One filing note: the five drawers and lockers are not part of the tracked collectible sets. The site-standard checklist counts files, statues, coins, seedlings, safes and BSAA containers — the full 139-item collectible checklist shows exactly what is and is not on that list. Miss a drawer and you lose Rare Metal, not completion.
SECTION 06
06Insanity Notes — What We Can and Cannot Print
Straight answer: we have nothing to print here yet. None of the five guides checked for this file documents any Insanity-specific change to lockpick spawns, lock locations or Rare Metal rewards. That is not the same as "nothing changes" — this site's own Insanity records show safe codes swapping and items relocating on the hardest setting — but for this subsystem specifically, the sources are silent.
So we leave the space honest: no claimed difference, no promised identical behaviour. If you are taking the pick-and-lock sweep into an Insanity run, the practical advice survives any difficulty: the two Basement locks are the missable ones. For everything that does shift on the hardest setting, our difficulty guide lines up what Insanity actually changes.
QUICK ANSWERS
07Resident Evil Requiem Lockpicks FAQ
How many lockpicks are in Resident Evil Requiem?
Five. Five lockpicks open exactly five locks, all inside the Care Center on the Normal route — three in the East and West Wings, two in the Basement (VGC; Polygon; games.gg). The supply is deliberately tight: every pick is consumed on use, and five picks is exactly enough for five locks (GamesRadar).
Are lockpicks consumed in Resident Evil Requiem?
Yes. A lockpick is consumed the moment it opens a lock (Polygon). Five picks are exactly enough for the five locks in the campaign — none to spare, none wasted, provided you pick every lock you pass (GamesRadar).
Can you miss a lock or a lockpick in Resident Evil Requiem?
Yes — two of the five locks sit past optional content. The Bunkroom locker is in an optional Basement room, and the Inspection Room's blue locker sits after the forklift sequence; move on and both are behind you, with no chapter select to loop back (VGC; games.gg). The lockpicks themselves sit on the main route, but a consumed pick is gone, so open the lock in front of you rather than saving the tool for later.
Do lockpicks open safes in Resident Evil Requiem?
No. Lockpicks only open the five simple locks — drawers, lockers and cabinets — and safes are a separate system opened with three-number dial combinations. The reward pools do not overlap either: safes hold antique coins, ammo and med injectors, while every simple lock holds Rare Metal (VGC; GamesRadar).
What is inside the locked drawers and lockers in Resident Evil Requiem?
Rare Metal in all five — no exceptions across the sources checked (VGC; games.gg; Game8). Rare Metal feeds the crafting recipe for Requiem ammunition, so the five drawers double as five crafting materials for the ammo loop.
